Even though life may feel short, there is always room to start something new again with more energy and happiness.

Is Life Short?

Do you ever get the feeling that life is moving too fast? It is often in quiet times that opportunities knock, dreams return and change calls for a part of us. Instead of excitement, hesitation arrives first. A whispering voice calls that it's been too long, that the road behind us is longer than the road ahead, and maybe it's wiser to stay where we are.

Life doesn't always seem fast. Some days are just never-ending. A tough week, a gloomy season, or a time of waiting can seem like forever. Watching the hour ticking away, wondering when things will pick up pace. On the other hand, in the grand scheme of things, we feel like years have flashed by in a heartbeat. We often look back on our past and wonder about our childhood, school life, college, and how an era went by while we had been occupied making plans for "someday." Time has a funny way of reshaping itself depending on how we live it.

Why do we feel like this? Routine is the major part of the answer. When days are identical, the brain fails to notice details, and time appears to be blurred. The more focus is on what could go wrong, the more it's gonna feel like the chances are slipping through our hands. The past feels heavy with regret, and the future feels shorter due to uncertainty. Sometimes we don't measure time; we measure emotions.

That's the reason two people live through the same number of years but experience them so differently. One may feel caught in interminable days, another startled by how fast all had gone by. Living life in the present makes it richer and fuller. But time passes, leaving everything behind, when we focus only on habit or worry.

So, how can we change our thinking?

First, we can stop looking at time as our enemy. A short life does not mean time is less; it means whatever you experience in that short time matters deeply. It can be an invitation to act rather than wait. A short life makes us live with great relationships, humble words, remarkable works, and risky encounters, which makes us feel alive again.

Secondly, we can remember that not only young people have new beginnings. The majority of people have started new chapters later than they thought they would. At the age of 49, Julia Child published her first cookbook and became a famous chef. Vera Wang started designing clothes at the age of 40. People like them remind us that time isn't as fixed as fear makes it seem.

"For what it's worth: it's never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be."

—F. Scott Fitzgerald.

Remember that even though life may feel short, there is always room to start something new again with more energy and happiness.
